7 Reasons Why You’re still not Earning from Blogging

With over 164 million active blogs and over 4.2 billion readers every day, the harsh reality is that most of these blogs don’t get past 1,000 visitors barrier in a month. With less than 1,000 visitors coming to your blog each month, your blog is nothing but a failure. You might have thought that pumping out content will generate leads or help you earn money, but things didn’t pan out the way you’d have liked.

Here’s why you’re still not earning from blogging:

1. You’re overselling advertising

Selling ads sounds prolific, but it is passive income and it cannot make a huge difference to your bottom line. If you go have a look at some of the best blogs, you won’t see their blog space cluttered with so many advertisements. Instead, they use the same “ad space” more intelligently, and that leads us to our next point – sell your own products.

2. You’ve not created one of your own products

Instead of selling ads, you should use your ad space to sell your own products like an e-book or some tool. You can make 3-10X more money by selling your products through your blog – even promoting an affiliate product is better than selling ads to make passive income.

Remember, you’re not just a blogger – you need to establish yourself as a mentor, a teacher, and even an entrepreneur, and your blog will serve as a launch pad for all these things. So, think it that way.

3. Your content doesn’t engage people naturally

The quality of your content will help make your blog productive. Research what your audience wants to read. Know their problems and issues. Give them solutions through your content. Ask thought-provoking questions, share statistics, and feed them with an emotional story that they could relate to.

4. You’re hard-selling your products and pushing readers

Remember, people will run away if you’re too pushy and asking them to make a purchase. Instead of pushing your visitors to buy your products upfront, you should slow it down and delay the sale a bit. The research shows that people who sign up for a free trial after reading several blog posts stay customers for longer than visitors who subscribed without reading many posts.

Give people some space to read your quality content and understand the value of being there on your blog before pushing them to opt for a free trial of your e-book or another product.

5. You’re not taking advantage of guest contributions

Guest posting is often a better way of utilizing your time than writing new content on your existing blog that’s still new and have fewer visitors. It is important to interact with other community bloggers and ask for an opportunity to establish your expertise on their already established blog.

6. You’re not consistent

Inconsistency isn’t going to take your blog anywhere. Even if you have published some incredibly interesting posts, you are not going to keep people interested unless you show up again with equally interesting content. You need to be regular in whatever you do, be it blog posting, promotion, or anything else.

7. You’re just writing & publishing

Publishing a post on your blog is not enough. You need to promote it every way possible. Start sharing it on Facebook, Twitter, or other social media networks. Participate in discussions on other forums and social media networks to establish your credibility and give people an idea of what they will find when they follow you.  Need more ideas? Remember, sharing your blog content on your small and sometimes inactive social media accounts is far from enough. Again, guest posting is a good way of promotion, as it helps convince the readers of another blog to come to yours as well.

These are some of the most common reasons why your blog is still not as effective as you would’ve have thought when you started it a few months ago. It is possible to earn $100K with a well-established blog, but you need to do things right and take it as a marathon, not a sprint. So, keep blogging!
